InstaFashion: My Week In Photos

photo-20

Behold, another week in Instafashion! Truth be told, until I started capturing my daily looks on camera, I had no idea of my obvious penchant for prints! Maybe I should leave some for the rest of Toronto, eh? Even my sneakers are loaded! Time to balance out with a few solids. #unlikely…;)

Denim…and a print.

Let me introduce you to my giant fivehead…and another print!

Fashionable fruit on the style palette this summer. Whether you’ve got your eye on a pineapple camisole or lemon print bralet, these sweet pieces are ripe for the picking.

What’s your flavour?

Look For Less: Lisa Dengler of Just Another Fashion Blog

The Look for Less-Lisa Dengler, Just Another Fashion Blog

Lisa Dengler of Just Another Fashion Blog isn’t really just another fashion blogger- she’s a great one!
Her tailored summer look is perfect for a casual day out, or the office- with a simple shirt swap, of course.
Do you love her look?

The Look For Less: Julie Sarinana of Sincerely Jules

The Look for Less- Sincerly Jules Julia Sarinana

We all love lifting inspiration from our fave fashion darlings, but sometimes their penchant for luxury designers (and generous corporate clothing allowances, collaborations and extra large trust funds…) make the recreating the look sadly of out reach. Based on the popularity of my first style blogger Look For Less (Blair Eadie)- and because I’ve never met a look that couldn’t be recreated for less- I thought it would be a fun idea to continue the style blogger series on FatFreeFashion.

Second up? Julie Sarinana of Sincerely Jules. The California-based blogger has amassed a huge following over the past 5 years of documenting her daily style, travel and life experiences, with no signs of slowing down.

Do you love her casual-luxe look?

Fab Finds: Wedding Guest Dresses For Under $100

Wedding Guest Dresses

As wonderful as they are, weddings can be a costly affair. Makeup, shoes, accessories, the dress- and you’re not even the bride! Slap a gift on top of that pile and a girl can easily blow through her monthly budget, and for an affair that lasts mere hours, finding a dress that you’ll want to wear again becomes an essential wedding-prep requirement.

Leave the LBDs to the masses and celebrate their love in a pretty pop of pastel for under $100. Now, where’s that champagne? Cheers!

Fab Finds: Frilly Factor

FRILL

Silk scares me. Camisoles chill me to the bone. A top that only bodes well for 30+ weather, yet magnifies perspiration spots at the slightest glimmer of sweat? That is cruel, unwearable irony, and its catapulted into one of the hottest trend tops for Summer 2014: the flimsy camisole.

While I love the casual feeling of a flimsy silk cami, stepping out in a curve-hugging, back-n’ boob-sweat accentuating little number isn’t my idea of casual-sexy elegance. Finding an alternative option became a mission, and I think I’ve found it in the frilly, tiered, spaghetti strap crop top.

Flowy. Flouncy. Feminine. Do you love a little frill factor?

Spring 2014 Trends: Fat Free Fashion Favourites!

Ok, Fashaloonies, 2013 was great and all, but who’s ready for a crop of fresh styles? I know I am! Because everyone loves a good trend rundown, below are my favourite trends for Spring 2014.

Frayed2014 will add another layer of destruction to our beloved denim: major fraying. Remember your cutoffs from last summer? We’ve welcomed our jeans into the cutting room. Get a head-start on this trend and grab a pair of your tired-looking skinnies. Snip off the ankle hem. Wash, wear and repeat.  jeans

prettypastelsDuh. You know this, but let’s rehash it again for fun! Pastels are huge. Somehow Radiant Orchid got crowned the top shade for 2014, but really, they’re all back in full force.  heels | dress

Fringe BenefitsGet into the swing of things with mucho fringe or tassel detailing. Why? Because it’s fun!  jeans

90scallingSlip dresses, silk camis, overalls, dainty florals…they’re not going anywhere for Spring 2014. Jump on board this trend with the many styles available in the shops now. overallsslides | top

widelegDitch your skinnies and widen your horizons this Spring with full length palazzo pants or cropped culottes. tan | blue

socks with heelsMost people will look utterly ridiculous attempting this trend, but I must admit, when executed correctly, it does look really cool. As a Canadian, I’m avoiding it at all costs, as we really only have a few short months to embrace a sock-less existence. For everyone else, sock it to ’em!  ribbon socks | polka dot socks | platforms

What are your favourite trends for Spring 2014? Will you rock any of these looks? Let’s discuss!

Fab Finds: Orange Crush

Orange Crush Fashion

I’m orange crushin’ hard on this sophisticated tweed blazer. If you are anything like me, you are freezing your patoot off unless it’s a comfortable 24+ degrees- outside or indoors. This vibrant orange tweed jacket is the perfect addition to your office wardrobe rotation. Swap the leather mini for a knee-length option and you’ve styled an outfit that will easily take you from your cubicle to a bar stool. Consider me smitten.

Something Old, Something New: Restyling A Bridesmaid Dress

Thank goodness for friends with good taste! Bridesmaid dresses often produce hideous visions of embellished, satin monstrosities that are banished to the back of the closet with the other I-paid-WAY-too-much-for-you-to-give-away-for-free purchases.

Imagine my glee when I laid eyes  upon my options for a bestie’s wedding. No embellishments. Above the knee. Lovely colour. Although it was a non-negotiable purchase, I happily plunked down the dough for the berry Alfred Sung bridesmaid dress, as it suited my style perfectly. I could easy envision myself wearing it long after her Big Day, as it was flattering, modern and could easily be altered for everyday life.

By popping on a casual cardigan, studded belt and embellished ankle boots, the look of this dupioni silk bridesmaid dress is completely transformed.

Style Tip: If you have any choice in the matter, opt for the most simple silhoutte available from her selected options, as it will have the most restyling flexibility. A highly stylized sweeping gown may look fabulous in pictures, but will you really wear it again? Doubtful. Get your money’s worth by staying true to your everyday style aesthetic.

Have you ever worn a bridesmaid dress after the wedding? How did you style it? This has the potential to be a really interesting (and profitable!) style series. I’m excited see your transformations.

Bridesmaid Dress: Alfred Sung | Boots: Zara | Cardigan: Topshop | Earrings: Le Chateau | Belt: H&M

Style Serving: Key Lime

This Chanel-esque Zara blazer is possibly the most versatile piece of clothing I own. Its been on dates, interviews, drinks with the girls, vacations…I mean, it’s lime green tweed and it manages to remain classy. #loveit

I picked up the white tassel necklace last season on clearance from Ann Taylor, and I am obsessed with it! It’s a 3 strand beauty and I seriously cannot believe it wasn’t scooped up before being demoted to the clearance section. Their loss = my gain! Very happy shopper.

The waxed skinnies are from Topshop and the slouchy grey (über comfy!) t-shirt is from Mendocino. Highly recommended at only $12 Canadian. Get every colour if you can, as they sell out quickly!
