InstaFashion: My Week In Photos

Behold, another week in Instafashion! Truth be told, until I started capturing my daily looks on camera, I had no idea of my obvious penchant for prints! Maybe I should leave some for the rest of Toronto, eh? Even my sneakers are loaded! Time to balance out with a few solids. #unlikely…;)

Denim…and a print.

Let me introduce you to my giant fivehead…and another print!

New Asics kicks. If you’re a runner, you NEED them! So comfy.

Floral Tiers & Comfy Slides

More Floral. Ok…I have a problem #printoverload

Have a great weekend, Lovelies!

I’ve been a bad blogger. The time I usually devout to creating content has somehow been overshadowed by squeezing out the last few weeks of summer (and the allure of my badminton rackets…) #majorgeek. I promise to get back on track this week, Fashaloonies! In the meantime, here is my week in InstaFashion!

 Have a fabulous weekend! xx

InstaFashion: My Week In Photos

Loving my BrittanyChristinaDesign fishing lure earrings! Perfect for summer.

Stacking chunky bracelets- no dainty bangles for me!

These leather Modern Vintage sandals are soooo comfy- highly recommend the brand. Quality.

White leopard and red toes.

Doing the Polka with my “new” vintage leather purse gifted to me from my dear Gram.

Bright pants are my calling card. Still loving this silk tie-dye pair from Zara.

Loving my destroyed denim. Ripped torn in Zara.

Ok, so it’s pretty obvious the My Style series on FatFreeFashion has been seriously neglected. Arranging the tripod outside my building or asking my Hubster to take a few pics of me everyday isn’t something that’s easily accomplished, so I’ve resorted to the next best method: Instagram!

Snapping a few #fromwhereIstand and #ootd pics is foolproof (and actually pretty fun!) so all of my outfit shots are there. If you’d like to join me, check out FatFreeFashion on Instagram. If you’re craving another slice of style inspo, but aren’t into Instagram, I’ll be sharing my looks here as a weekly round-up.

Have a great week, Fashaloonies! x

Style Serving: Floral Peplum

Yes, I said peplum. And yes, I realize it’s now 2014 and peplums should be used only with EXTREME caution. But this peplum is different, see, because I’ve layered it! I made it all brand-shiny-new! (Go with it…). The truth is, I really like the print of this top, so I think it’ll stay in the Keep pile for just a bit longer.

Side note: I think it’s pretty obvious that someone desperately needs a haircut and is clinging to her topknot for dear life, until she makes it to the salon on Thursday. (That wouldn’t be me, I’m just hypothetically speaking). Moving on.

The printed chambray and maroon faux leather skirt are Forever 21 finds and the floral peplum was picked up for $5.00 on a random trip through Sirens. I’m hoping this will be my last indoor shoot of the year, but it’s still -10 in Toronto and approaching April…time to move??? I’ll give it another week 😉

 Happy Hump Day, Fashaloonies! xx

Something Old, Something New: Restyling A Bridesmaid Dress

Thank goodness for friends with good taste! Bridesmaid dresses often produce hideous visions of embellished, satin monstrosities that are banished to the back of the closet with the other I-paid-WAY-too-much-for-you-to-give-away-for-free purchases.

Imagine my glee when I laid eyes  upon my options for a bestie’s wedding. No embellishments. Above the knee. Lovely colour. Although it was a non-negotiable purchase, I happily plunked down the dough for the berry Alfred Sung bridesmaid dress, as it suited my style perfectly. I could easy envision myself wearing it long after her Big Day, as it was flattering, modern and could easily be altered for everyday life.

BEFORE: The Big Day

AFTER: Everyday!

By popping on a casual cardigan, studded belt and embellished ankle boots, the look of this dupioni silk bridesmaid dress is completely transformed.

Style Tip: If you have any choice in the matter, opt for the most simple silhoutte available from her selected options, as it will have the most restyling flexibility. A highly stylized sweeping gown may look fabulous in pictures, but will you really wear it again? Doubtful. Get your money’s worth by staying true to your everyday style aesthetic.

Have you ever worn a bridesmaid dress after the wedding? How did you style it? This has the potential to be a really interesting (and profitable!) style series. I’m excited see your transformations.

Bridesmaid Dress: Alfred Sung | Boots: Zara | Cardigan: Topshop | Earrings: Le Chateau | Belt: H&M

Style Serving: Key Lime

This Chanel-esque Zara blazer is possibly the most versatile piece of clothing I own. Its been on dates, interviews, drinks with the girls, vacations…I mean, it’s lime green tweed and it manages to remain classy. #loveit

I picked up the white tassel necklace last season on clearance from Ann Taylor, and I am obsessed with it! It’s a 3 strand beauty and I seriously cannot believe it wasn’t scooped up before being demoted to the clearance section. Their loss = my gain! Very happy shopper.

The waxed skinnies are from Topshop and the slouchy grey (über comfy!) t-shirt is from Mendocino. Highly recommended at only $12 Canadian. Get every colour if you can, as they sell out quickly!

Blazer: Zara | T-Shirt: Vero Moda | Waxed Skinnies: Topshop | Boots: Franco Sarto | Necklaces: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Ann Taylor | Earrings: Le Chateau

Style Serving: In The Navy

Off the top- apologies for the dark photos. Nighttime was closing in and I snapped these pics quickly before running upstairs and changing into my PJs! It is just me, or does everyone ditch the tights, jewellery and formfitting clothing immediately after walking through the door? It’s like I can’t function with them on at home, I may as well be wearing a straitjacket! Although during the day, these pieces don’t bother me in the slightest. Odd…

The shirt-skirt combo dress is a Zara find, perfect for those days when you really want the casual look of separates, but are frankly just too damn lazy to go closet hunting for the right combination. The pompom belt (which I now realize should have been tightened up a loop or two…) is a Dynamite find that I loved so much, I bought in black as well.

The spike necklace is from Forever 21, and despite its age, I just can’t seem to get sick of it! Don’t you love those finds? Never break, my dearest! Ha!

The boots are Expression from Hudson’s Bay and the tights are Forever 21, which have seriously impressed me in regards to quality- they were only $6.00, but are seemingly resist to runs and tears. Highly recommended, Fashaloonies! xx

Style Serving: The Pleather Principle

Pleather, PVC, faux leather- whatever you call it, leather’s cheap cousin really gets a bad rap. Yes, it will never look as luxe as the real deal, but $20 for a cute perforated “leather” skirt? I am definitely not complaining. In fact, I love it!

The chambray shirt with pleather trim was a Material Girl steal from Hudson’s Bay for $15.00, and I picked up the black wool jacket on clearance from Zara. My belt was a budget-blowing $2.00 on sale from H&M, and the Franco Sarto studded ankle boots are a Marshalls find from a few years back.

Can you tell I love a good deal? Unless it’s a love-at-first-sight kind of piece, or the cost vs. quality is already fair, I will usually shop around for the best value. However, after hearing myself describe my outfits, it is becoming painfully obvious that I need a seasonal update. “Last season”, “old”, “years ago”…time to hit the shops! Have a wonderful weekend, Fashaloonies! xx

Style Serving: Nubby Knit

This nubby knit from Zara has been with me for a couple of years now. It kind of reminds me of a carpet, which is exactly what you want to swath yourself in -20, right?! The best thing about it is that it’s practically impossible to pill, as it’s woven with multiple layers of unique thread with no obvious sequence. Perfect for someone like me, who tends to get dressed with one hand on a coffee, the other on a curling iron and half her body running out the door. Take THAT, coat zipper!

The textured leggings (old) and statement necklace (newish) were both found at Dynamite for $10 each! Pretty chuffed at my treasure hunt!

The tasselled ankle boots are a Coach find from last year. These babies have been scuffed, wiped and polished countless times over the past year, and they still keep coming back to life. It’ll be a sad day when they are retired at the end of this season.

What are your winter favourites that have carried you through the Polar Vortex?

Style Serving: Fur Sure

This Forever 21 fur vest has been in my winter wardrobe rotation for at least 5 years, although I doubt it’s gotten more wear than it has this winter- the coldest in 37 years?! Crazy.

photo 3-2

Admittedly, removing my coat to snap a couple of pictures was nothing short of painful. -20?! Not impressed. Kudos to all my favourite style bloggers who’ve endured the frigid temps for the perfect shot- it’s a lot harder than it looks!
