Have you heard about Beyonce’s upcoming HBO documentary ‘Life Is But A Dream’? Directed by Beyonce and staring Beyonce, the doc chronicles Bey’s favourite topic of conversation: herself.
Label her a narcissist, but she’s laughing all the way to the bank. For her die-hard fans, the appetite for this documentary is huge. The carefully calculated the release of anything regarding her personal life has paid off for the superstar, who has clearly mastered the art of keeping them chomping at the bit. She just joined Twitter in the past year. She reveals only slivers of her life away from the spotlight, unlike her fellow popstars who have a tendency to overshare. She is never attached to unsavoury photos or tabloid scandals that could jeopardize her marketed image. She is a perfectly turned-out PR machine. So who IS Beyonce really?
The diva had this to say about her HBO doc:
“HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity,” said Beyonce in a statement. “Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home.”
After previewing the documentary it appears that as per usual, there’s not a lot to be learned that hasn’t already been covered extensively by the media. But maybe not? Mrs. Carter recently disclosed in her interview with GQ that she “employs a visual director… who has shot practically her every waking moment, up to sixteen hours a day, since 2005″.
Seriously? Wow, that’s commitment! Or is it the makings of an underlying raging egomaniac? It seems that nothing is off the record with this powerhouse. Is it really necessary to film every waking moment of your life, just in case you may want to reference it someday? It makes one wonder how authentic she can really be on daily basis, with a camera constantly filming her every move. You’d think that after a while a person would unconsciously create a scripted persona that is acceptable for the camera, leading one to question how much of her ‘daily life’ is really an act? I suppose we’ll have to tune in on February 16 to find out.
One thing is for certain though. Until her signature finger lick makes a cameo in doc, I won’t be fully convinced that the “real” Beyonce is what we are seeing! Girlfriend needs to trademark that move, stat!
